The Record Factory: sound new makeover for West End venue

Posted on: February 5, 2014 by Paul
The bar, restaurant and gig venue is taking a stroll towards rock and roll under its new management, focussing on live music and filling the indie gap in west end night life.
Different direction
“It’s a completely different direction we’re taking it in,” said Paul McJimpsey, director at The Record Factory.
“We didn’t want to take it down the kind of electro, student club night route. There are plenty of places like that in Glasgow.
“We want it to be committed to live indie and rock and roll music, we wanted to cater to the indie crowd in the west end who have to go into town after the pub if they want a night out.
“There’s plenty of people in the West End who might go out to Nice N Sleazy’s or somewhere like that after the bars close, we appeal to them.”
Mature makeover
It’s not just the venue’s music tastes that are markedly different than before.
The decor has gone from student hangout to rock and roll lounge, complete with plush red booths and walls decorated by vintage Rolling Stone and Q covers.

“We’re completely different now,” said Paul.
“It’s all about the music. People didn’t really know what Faktory was – was it a student bar, a club, a gig venue?
“With The Record Factory there’s now more of an identity.”

After parties and anti-Valentines
The Record Factory will host after parties for prominent indie acts visiting Glasgow, as well as having live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Their private area ‘The Den’ is open until 2am every night, food is served all day and sports fans can catch big games on the Record Factory TV screens.
They will also host an ‘Anti-Valentine’s Day’ party for anyone hoping to avoid the usual sickly sentimentality of February 14.

“We wanted to create an event that had no love hearts, no cuddly toys, no flowers or chocolates,” said Paul.
“Just good food and great music. The event is for singles, couple, groups and just general gig goers.”
“Lets not get caught up in all the Valentines rubbish.”
